21st Century Skills and Educational Technology
Nearly all educators today will agree that there exists a gap in U.S. education between where we are and where we should be.
According to , with Harvard University’s new Innovation Lab, there are two major gaps in U.S. education.
There is a gap in the quality of education between middle-class America and impoverished America, and the consequential disparity in opportunities. There is also a gap in what the best U.S. education prepares our students for, and what is needed to succeed in today’s workplace.
Wagner details this Global Achievement Gap in his 2010 book with that very title. There is no cure all, but seven 21st Century Skills must be integrated in all curricula and across all disciplines to prepare all students for the workplace.
Technology integration in education, if done properly, has the ability to greatly increase student preparedness. Below is an infographic that I created listing Wagner’s seven 21st Century Skills, and a few educational technology applications to develop those skills.
