A Candle Drips in Teotitlán del Valle, Mexico
Sometimes it is the details that tell us the most about a scene. This woman was walking outside with this candle for a long time and she was careful to protect the flame from blowing out. We know this from the dried wax down the sides of the candle and the wax she had that had spilled onto her fingers and then dried. I can imagine how the wet wax burned when it first hit her skin, yet she left it there to protect the flame of the candle.
I followed the procession that this woman was taking part in. It was a quiet and somber, yet beautiful event. This detail image tells more of the story of what I wrote about with the post on Walking on Rose Petals and Altar Boy Pauses in The Sun. It was a beautiful morning and we started walking very early. As the procession was ending, people were starting to leave their homes to go to work and the town’s market was just getting started selling the fresh fruits and vegetables.
