Networking Events Suck, Do This Instead
You know what I mean. Constantly meeting new people who are interested in promoting their business, and not learning about yours. Not knowing who is a good connection for you, and who isn’t. Hours spent in one on one “coffee chats” that result in nothing useful. Bad advice for what you can do to help your business grow and help you live a better life. This is what local business networking events can be like if you don’t do it right.
The good news is that below I described an infinitely more useful use of time when you want to build your own network. For years I’ve been leveraging LinkedIn to meet people that can help move my career and my business forward. I use this strategy to meet people anywhere in the world, and I do this from anywhere too. Step #1: Maximize Your Online Profile
Yes, I know this is what everyone says. So, seriously, do it. Fill in as much information as you can about your professional experiences and education. But make sure that all descriptions are in some way related to your company’s value proposition.
