Oktoberfest Rest in Deerfield Beach, Florida

Evidence of culture is everywhere, you just have to find it. While living in Miami for a decade, I intermittently explored the cultures outside of this vibrant city. I knew that there was a large Brazilian immigrant population in Deerfield Beach, but I when I peeled back the layers, I found a large ethnic German population just there as well.

At the town’s large Oktoberfest, I met dozens of people who regularly got together to participate in celebrating German dancing and cooking. Not all were ethnically German, but they enjoyed the culture. The three kids in this photo had been active in the Oktoberfest celebrations, and I found the scene irresistible. I hope you do too.
