Palm Tree Reflection in Miami, Florida

This image may remind you of a summer time scene, and maybe it’s similar to one you’ve seen recently. But this photo was made in February in Miami. It was a beautiful sunny day and the water in the pool, the sky, and the ocean were all a beautiful light blue color. But with my camera in hand, that is not what I saw.

I liked the reflection of the palm tree and the curving lines of the pool. After releasing the shutter, I looked at the preview screen on the back of my camera. Delighted with the geometric pattern, I showed the preview to a non-photographer colleague and she responded, “Oh, it’s black and white.” Yes, it’s black and white. The goal was for the viewer to see something different than what normal life would look like and to see how I saw the seen. I hope this does that for you and that you enjoy this geometric winter scene in Miami.
