Do you sometimes get frustrated with the way your photos look? Do you know that what you see in person was so much more captivating than the photos that you made?

There are a few reasons why this happens. And my goal with writing these “make better photos” blog posts is to help you learn how to see these reasons.

In this post I want to address simple fixes that don’t have to do with technical aspects of your camera. But they have everything to do with the position that your camera is in and where you are standing when you make the photo.

Positioning For Composition

When you see a scene that makes an impact on you, don’t make the image from the position you are in when you first get to the scene.

Think about what framing is the most eye catching. What perspective would make the most impact?

I like to emphasize the rule of thirds here. Try to see if you can get the subject of your shot on the left side of your frame. Get a qualifier on the right side. And see if you can fill up the spaces closer to your camera and further away.
