Sormani Fish in Rome, Italy

How do you make interesting photos? One idea is to make a scene look radically different than what the human eye would perceive. Another idea is to use one of the principles of Gestalt theory, and allow the mind to fill in the pieces that are missing to the human eye.

I had these two bits of advice running through my mind as I stood in front of the Pantheon, one of the world most recognizable treasures.

By scanning the piazza, I got closer to the fountain and was charmed by this 16th century fish, sculpted by Leonardo Sormani. He adds a layer of time. Having arrived to the piazza nearly a millennia and a half after the Pantheon was built, this makes the 500 years since the Italian Renaissance seem like a blink of an eye.
