Wait For Me in Sant’Elia, Italy
I was on the way to visit relatives in Bagheria just outside of Palermo, when my cousin decided to show me around a beautiful small town he had ridden through on one of his hours-long bike rides. This is how I ended up in Sant’Elia when the lighting conditions were beautiful. We first took a walk along the beach and got our toes wet in the clear turquoise ocean. Then we walked through the town and past friends chatting in the piazza and older men playing cards in the shade of a tree.
As we headed to the parking lot, a bit in the distance I spotted this young girl in a first communion dress. She was with her large family, who had been celebrating this special event with her. She soon decided to catch up to get a ride with someone who was already heading toward the parking lot. That is why in the second photo you see her running. I made the first shot “from the hip”. It’s not something that I normally do, but I didn’t want to change the scene, nor did I have time to converse with them after making the image. I have decided to post the first image, because the light shown on her beautifully and I like the image, because it reminds me a bit of my own childhood.
