What Separates Professional Branding Photos from A Snapshot
Ansel Adams famously said,
“You don’t take a photograph, you make it.”
In an age when everyone with a smartphone thinks that they’re a photographer, what does this mean?
How can you stand out from the snapshot crowd?
What kind of product should you look for when you decide to have professional branding photos made?
In this post, I’ll answer these questions based on my own experience as a photographer and as working with other professional photographers. The goal is for you to have a guide to use when speaking to any photographer you hire to make your professional photos.
Pre-Shoot Consultation
A photographer’s job is to visually communicate what we often can’t say or don’t want to use words for. One of the most successful branding photoshoots that I’ve ever had was with Sarah Soliz. To make sure that she made photos that communicated what I wanted my brand to say, we had an in-depth initial consultation.
I wrote out what I wanted, then she made notes that were easy for her to understand. During the photoshoot, she told me what was possible then I would say “yay” or “let’s try something else”.
